Swordfish in the Sea

We're into our third week out of 6 in swimming. This week was picture day. Family and friends could come and take pictures of their little swordfish in the water. This week wasn't so good for our little fish. Rowyn decided not to have a nap before swimming which proved challenging through class. We started out in the big pool and did a few exercises. Floating on the back is NOT Rowyn's favourite thing. In fact, she cried from the moment we got into the pool until we finished and got dressed. We did do some more dunking with little crying and some songs and playing. What a work out it is for me! All that carrying and up and down with Rowyn works out those muscles that haven't been used in a months.

Sleep - oh elusive sleep. What is sleep? I'm not sure. I don't think Rowyn knows what sleep is either. We're going through a bad spot with regards to that. It's like Rowyn forgot how to sleep. Up until Rowyn was 5 months old I'd have said that Rowyn was a pretty good napper and sleeper. She was doing 2 - two hour naps per day and 2 or 3 nights a week sleeping through until 7 a.m. Bliss oh bliss that was. Now - I'm lucky if I get two 30 minute naps with ALOT of effort to get her to sleep and we're up anywhere from 2-3 times a night. Someone tell me what's going on! Rowyn decided to take a sleep detour. It's amazing how it plays on your emotions though. I thought that I had a pretty even keel with regards to Rowyn and being able to manage the ups and downs. But this no sleeping thing has got me really puzzled and confused. It's strange to see Rowyn be tired, almost sleeping, then decide to bounce around her crib for another two hours. I keep saying to her "Mummy's tired... how come you're not?!" Rowyn's answer "...lalablahblahdadadddddaaaablahaaaahhhhh" all said with a smile. Sheesh!

Hair cut! - I cut Rowyn's hair. I couldn't help it. The back was so long. She had a good mulet going. The hair kept getting caught in the back of her bibs and clothes so I got up the nerve and chopped it off. She looks like a different girl now. It looks so much better. I cut it off to the place where all the new hair is growing and I only cut off the back part. Not the top. Of course I saved her hair too for a memento!

Language development (if you could call it that). Rowyn has progressed from the "ahahah" and "uhuhuhuh" to the "blah-blah la-la da-da mmmmmmmm". The noises almost sound like legible words. I keep hoping to hear "Mama!" Not quite yet but I'm hoping soon!

Rowyn's favourite songs...
1. Teddy Bear's Picnic
2. Do-Re-Me
3. Row Row Rowyn's Boat
4. Any song from any John Mayer CD

Tegan sent over a bunch of toys that she was finished playing with and generously thought of Rowyn. Rowyn's new favourite thing is her green fishy! Who needs a soother when we have a fish to suck on! Thanks cousin Tegan!

Swimming pic #1. Rowyn likes being on her stomach floating around more than on her back. We were having a pretty good time here

Swimming pic #2. Floating on our back. Not too happy here but we're making it work.

Jeff and Mel came to visit on Saturday night after their trip to Florida. They brought Rowyn a Mini Mouse rattle. Rowyn says "Dablahdammmahhhhh!" - translation - Thanks I love it!

Hey guys,
When Gail was first swimming, I found the back was her enemy- it's the ears in the water (still hates it)see if putting her head on your shoulder and then both of you are under...kind of anyway
As for the sleeping- good luck- its growth spurts. Maybe try leaving her in her crib for a bit by herself- she'll play and make noises, have a real party and eventually will fall asleep- maybe get rid of one nap? I found the morning one the easiest to get rid of- for Gail anyway- then she was tuckered by afternoon nap time (only 1 hour MAX though).
Don't know kiddo- they are all different and do their own thing. Good luck though

Hello Soloy's

Your daughter is so beautiful. I can hardly believe how big Rowyn's grow since I saw her last. She looks very happy. Keep up the good work Mom and Dad.
